Every Child Matters
n/a

Every Child Matters is an introduction to the Residential School System and its purpose. Written for a younger audience by the author and founder of Orange Shirt Day, Phyllis takes us through her feelings as a survivor of a system designed to oppress Indigenous people and their culture, teachings and practices still survive today. It’s a reminder for Survivors, their families and the children who didn’t make it home that they matter.

Minnow:
The Girl Who Became Part Fish

A young Indigenous water protector named Minnow goes on an underwater journey; learning from our ocean-living relatives. When she returns to the surface, she gathers her community to help make a change.
This story is told in lyrical rhyme and helps children gain a better respect for Indigenous water and land protectors, the environment and world around them, and helps show children activism at an early age.

Storyteller Skye:
Teachings from My Ojibway Grandfather

Storyteller Skye is a collection of five short stories starring different animals and the lessons that shaped them into the creatures we see today. Skye teaches us the importance of consequence, coming together as a community and the power in storytelling.

Our Logo
Medicine Wheel Icon

The sacred symbol of the Medicine Wheel represents unity and balance between the fours that exist in our world. The four seasons, the four elements, the four directions, the four peoples, the four types of education, etc. The goal of Medicine Wheel Publishing is to bring about greater understanding between people, especially in regards to Reconciliation.

Feather Icon

Every feather of an eagle represents a sacred teaching. Every book published is a teaching being passed onto the reader.

Eagle Icon

The eagle wrapping our community and our logo is a symbol of the 7th sacred teaching – love. Each of the other six sacred teachings are needed in order to love. Medicine Wheel Publishing strives every day to achieve this goal – to be loving.

Medicine Wheel Publishing Elders’ and Educators’ Council

As of 2022, Medicine Wheel Publishing is supported by an Indigenous Elders’ and Educators’ Council made up of knowledgeable members of the Indigenous community who advise our cultural practices and help us to walk in a good way. Each offering their own expertise that helps guide our process and system to ensure authenticity and quality.

Medicine wheel Publishing acknowledges that we live and work on the unceded traditional territory of the Coast Salish People including the Scia’new people, the lək̓ʷəŋən people and the T’Sou-ke people.

Giving Back

Medicine Wheel Publishing believes that all things in life are interrelated in one sacred circle — one world, one people, one planet and one community. The teaching is profound, yet simple. What goes into your circle will come back to you. That’s why, since its inception, Medicine Wheel Publishing has strived to always give back in a meaningful way that completes that circle.

Medicine Wheel Publishing has donated over 15,000 books to Indigenous schools and communities as well as offering over $300,000 in donations or discounts to Indigenous communities, teachers, social workers, and more.

Medicine Wheel Publishing has donated over $25,000 to non-profits including the following:

The Orange Shirt Society

“The Orange Shirt Society creates awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of Indian Residential Schools.”

Indian Residential School Survivor Society

“The Indian Residential School Survivors Society (IRSSS) is a provincial organization that provides essential services to residential school survivors and families experiencing intergenerational trauma. We have been supporting Indigenous people since 1994.”

ArtsCan Circle

“ArtsCan Circle opens pathways where youth not just collaborate with artists but have access to instruments and creative tools as well so that youth can ultimately share their stories through a multitude of creative expressions.”

Phyllis Webstad

“I am so glad I met Teddy and his publishing company. Other publishers didn’t know how to work with me, but Teddy knew right away how to get the story from my brain and heart onto the paper. I strongly recommend his company, he and his staff are growing into a larger company and are able to help and be there for many more truth-tellers. Kukstemcw Teddy Anderson for publishing my story!”

Kevin Locke

“Having done several projects with Medicine Wheel, I highly recommend their professionalism and products. They go to great lengths to ensure that the narratives are authentically Indigenous and transcend tribal/cultural specific themes to accentuate universal human values.  Readers of every background around the globe will identify with and find deep meaning in their materials.  The books also contain stimulating study questions to help the readers identify take-away themes and ideas. Each book has excellent, inspirational illustrations that breathe the spirit of color and added vitality, and propel each storyline. These books fill a vital role in helping young readers to connect with our collective heritage as part of one world.”

Kung Jaadee

“Mr. Anderson was always considerate of me, and my feelings towards everything in the creation of my book, Raven’s Feast. Mr. Anderson has listened carefully to all of my suggestions for changes in the text and the illustrations for my story. I have been treated with utmost respect and dignity. I have been treated like an equal partner for every decision; every edit, regardless of how minor has been discussed, often at length. Mr. Anderson has called me on several occasions to ensure complete clarity on both our parts. He’s approachable and open to all suggestions. He’s flexible and willing to be there, to hold my hand, as it were, as I have never published a book before. I am most grateful to him and to his team in the completion of my book. It’s beautiful! I am proud to bring it to my children and to my grandchildren as well; to enjoy for years to come.”
